I love lists, especially road trip checklists. I make packing lists, dreaming of trips we should be taking.
Since I’ve been on few dog road trips, I end up stealing packing lists from travelers with eons more experience than I, then judge each item and proclaim:
“no I don’t need that”
“oooh I want to buy that!”
and so on …
I found that many expert dog trippers say to bring an extra dog leash. Until recently, that extra dog leash was delegated to my “no I don’t need that” category.
After all, how could I lose a leash?
I’m eating crow here.
I should have listened to the experts.
Granted, it was just a day trip with only a few miles between beach and trail stops. I was able to retrace our tracks and find that lost leash. If it had been a longer adventure and we were suddenly short a leash … well, it would have been disappointing.
Even on our little day trip, a missing leash would have meant spending more of that glorious day hanging out in the car…
… instead of on the beach outing we actually enjoyed …
That would have been sad.
So I bought new dog leashes as backups.
Twist my arm: send me shopping for more doggie items!
I buy Lupine brand leashes because their handles are padded and mounted on D-rings. The D-ring makes it super convenient to hang both a carabiner and a doggie-bag carrier.
Lesson learned: think twice before double-guessing stolen packing lists.
